I know that kids nowadays often ignore their local Football Team and whether they live in Ipswich or Bangalore, will support Man U or Spurs; in Scotland the dominance of the two (originally) sectarian clubs, Rangers and Celtic, meant that they drew support from every hamlet in the country: Denholm, Dollar or Dallas, in preference to the nearest professional Team. So residence does not define loyalty, just as Loyalty is not restricted to residence. S, although I don't live in Glasgow, the Club that is in my blood, is the Club my Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather supported - Partick Thistle, commonly referred to as The Jags!
This affiliation is continued in the next generation by my Nephew, Sam Rogers, my Sister's boy. He is a very individual chap, and because of his hair colour and his surname, has taken upon himself the nickname Ginger. Previously used as a disparaging, dismissive - often racial or religious - epithet, many youngsters are now wearing it with pride. And to be a Ginger Jags fan takes a lot of self-respect and self-confidence. So here's a photoi of me an Ginger fairly recently at Firhill, willing our team on to victory! By the way, while for me, affection for Thistle is a genetic inheritance, for Ginger it is also an addfitional strength that he, like Sayid, is supporting his Local Team. Come on The Jags!
