First book on my Kindle, written by the author of "The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs" which was made into a film with Glenn Close. And "Esther Waters" which, I believe, is regarded as his Masterpiece and was also filmed, with Dirk Bogarde. "The Celibates" is a collection of short stories, dealing with his regular themes of repressed homosexuality, lesbianism, transvestism, infidelity, and as an insight into morality at the turn of the 19th into the 20th Century probably give a fairer picture than the more salacious novels which are probably better read today. To be honest, I wasn't really aware of Moore before the "Albert Nobbs" film and it was only because of that, that I read these stories, But I'm glad I did. Maybe I live a fairly sheltered life, because I'm sure that in mainstream LGBT circles Moore will have been read and appreciated - not that you have to be Gay or Lesbian to enjoy them and, in fact having just written this I have persuaded myself to get "Esther Waters" and probably some of his others. Definitely well worth it!
Note to Self - don't leave it for a few years before trying to write something about a book, dear, your memory isn't what it was. Thankyou Self!
